I think you should look into Leon County School Board’s hiring of Temp. Agencies for Temp. employees to perform maintenance and re-roofing on all of the county schools by uncertified and inexperienced labor, which may be illegal and will definitely cost the tax payers more money when these roof systems fail. There will be no manufacturers or labor warranties for the work performed, as you would with licensed and insured contractors. The state of Florida requires all roofers to be licensed. The schools are licensed only for maintenance, not whole new roof systems. This was only supposed to be temporary 3 month maintenance program that has gone on for more than a year now. Please feel free to contact me at 519-3367 if you would like to discuss further.

I have begun blogging about area crime in Tallahassee. I post about burglaries, thefts, domestics, you name it…in detail, while withholding personal names of victims, all the politically correct stuff. I would love for my blog to linked to your site so that we may inform Tallahassee on many fronts. What makes my info good is that I am a local law enforcement officer. I have insider info and credibility.Take a look and see what you think. I would love to exchange links.

Interesting website. Seems a bit “agenda-ed” though to be classified as research and reporting which implies that it should be without bias.
As for the borrowed blue sculpture mentioned in “So Sad About All The Waste”, it did not cost the COT a dime and is only on loan for a period of time. The park itself, along with the adjacent Boulevard park, were budgeted as a part of the original Chain of Parks plan for restoration and had nothing to do with the sculpture. That is data that includes fact not conjecture.

Hello,
It seems obvious to me that this city like to spend money on shiny things it can’t afford.
Performing Arts Center? Boondoggle I believe, that will take tax money we all pay and spend it on arts only certain people enjoy. I would gladly be proved wrong, but not at my expense.
How about that Challenger Center? Is it bringing in the dollars or am I paying with my taxes? Rumor has it that it makes ends meet with school board money.
Brogan Museum?
How about that borrowed blue sculpture on Gaines Street?
Thanks for all your good work.

Why is the City thying to sell the Utility Drive-up payment building? and when they do sell it will they gibve that money to the Performing arts Fund?

I admire the work you’ve done. Utility issues, grids, fuel costs, power-plant improvements and 15-20 year growth plans are all complex. It includes betting on the future of growth, and fuel costs to meet those demands. I also remember Califonia (The state) being hoodwinked into a deal that left the state badly damaged in the late 90’s (Enron) Forgive me for this lengthy rant, but Do you (Tallahassee reports) have an axe to grind here? Are you fronting a private utility? Nothing wrong with that. I would just like some full disclosure on your part. Keep up the due dillegence.

Congratulations! Finally there are several voices in unison that are decidedly, and with good effort, taking the City of Tallahassee generally, and more specifically “Your Own Utilities” to task for the manner in which electricity is provided for the residents of this fine “burg”. From where i sit, the only GREEN effort on the part of the city and the power minions rests in the ability for those so graced with authority to relieve those of us who either work for a living, or are on fixed incomes, of the GREEN stuff we use to pay our bills, including the one for power.
The fact is that the city has used the excess revenue from the power production to fund government services. It would appear that this excess revenue (i.e. profit) is being used as a de facto TAX; paying the power bill just pays monies to be used to fill an agencies budget. From where I sit, this is extremely regressive for it costs just as much to heat and cool a home on the southside as it does, dare i say it, on the northeast side. And, political oxen are spared the inevitable goring each year as the city quietly folds that extra money into the budgets of the various agencies needing support.
At the risk of causing an “ouch”, would it not be advisable to allow professionals to take the power generation facility into the free market where collective wisdom and best practices would rule rather than leave this resource under the care of bureaucrats politically motivated at that? Gee whiz, money spent to purchase fuel is leaving the community, isn’t it? Cheaper fuel is available so why not use it!

As a former award-winning investigative reporter now living in Tallahassee, it is good to see that someone is willing to take on these types of stories. Web sites like these are the future of the local news business. I wish you all the luck in getting advertisers on board.

I have added this to my favorites. I appreciate your efforts to keep us posted of news we would not otherwise know about. I will be a regular viewer.
